In Australia, we have been developing BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) project in collaboration with SV Solar since 2024. SV Solar Pty Ltd is an Australian owned solar installation company that has installed more than 20MW of rooftop solar on 1000+ homes in the few years of operating alone.
Thanks to technological advancements, large-scale battery storage is now the superior choice for electricity peaking services - storing energy for when it's needed most.
BESS provides significant cost, flexibility, and emission advantages in comparison to traditional peaking services such as open-cycle gas turbine plants. BESS were found to have faster reaction time, higher accuracy and increased flexibility, allowing them to respond more efficiently to price variability. BESS's lower operating costs, complemented by its lowered capital costs, are cementing it as a superior solution to meet the demands of peaking power.
The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a consortium project undertaken by SV Solar, Green Energy Distribution Singapore (GED), Sunergy Singapore and ACME India.
The project will be directly connected to distribution assets.
The BESS is 5MW/11MWh and utilises Lithium-ion battery technology and is directly connected to Energex network.
The BESS is designed to operate at 365 full cycle charge and discharges per annum and will be registered to operate as a 5MW generator, 5MW load, regulation Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) raise and lower, and contingency FCAS markets.
